What are the watch glass materials? How to identify? What is the way to change the watch glass?

The watch mirror, the transparent lens on the watch surface, is also called watch glass, which is used to protect the watch surface (dial). Table mirrors can be divided into three categories according to their materials: synthetic glass table mirrors, mineral crystal glass table mirrors, and sapphire crystal glass table mirrors. Synthetic glass crystals are relatively resistant to falling, and sapphire crystals are the most wear-resistant.

Watch glass material classification

Sapphire crystal: The physical and chemical properties are stable, and the hardness is second only to diamond. It can solve the problems of scratching, aging, corrosion and so on, but it is fragile. (Generally used for high-end watches.)

Plexiglass: Synthetic glass, commonly known as acrylic, is easy to scratch, but has good toughness and is not easily broken. (Mostly for low-end watches.)

Mineral glass: It has better abrasion resistance, but its ability to resist vertical blows is stronger than that of sapphire glass, so military watches often use it as a watch mirror. (Used for low-end tables.)

How to identify three kinds of glass watch mirrors

First, you can tap your finger on the mirror to listen to the sound carefully. The acrylic mirror will make a sound like plastic, while the sound of glass is thicker. Secondly, from the perspective of weight, the acrylic mirror is the lightest and the sapphire mirror is the heaviest. Since sapphire has a very good thermal conductivity, when you touch it with your hands, there will be a cold feeling. Since the sapphire mirror surface is much smoother than the mirror surfaces of the other two materials, if you drop a drop of water on the sapphire mirror surface, the water droplets will not spread easily, while the other materials will disperse into one piece.

There are four kinds of watch case glass. Ordinary glass mirror, mineral crystal mirror, rubber mirror, sapphire mirror

1. Ordinary glass mirror: it is made of flat glass after polishing, the surface is smooth and shiny. Low scratch resistance and not easy to crack.

2. Ore crystal mirror surface: moderate scratch resistance, easy to break.

3. Rubber mirror: organic glue, although it is easy to be scratched, it is not easy to break.

4. Sapphire mirror: high-strength anti-scratch, high hardness of sapphire. Watches made of sapphire have higher shock resistance, sealing and strength than other materials.

Whether from the perspective of cultural cognition, or from the investment direction and scale of the watchmaking industry, in the foreseeable future, the sapphire mirror is still an identifier for top-level watches and a factor in the quality of top-level watches. The only downside is that it is extremely fragile.
